The WATER-MINING project has implemented a platform to connect wastewater owners with potential end-users of the materials recovered from wastewater streams and desalination plants. WATER-MINING Boosts Circularity in Drought-Hit Catalonia
The WATER-MINING pilot study set up by Sorigué in La Llagosta, Catalonia, Spain, showcased a wastewater treatment process that recovers phosphates and nitrogen, achieves nearly 100% water reuse, and cuts purification energy by 25%. LEARN MORE
Interactive Workshop held during the Ecsite2024 Conference
On June 5, 2024, the WATER-MINING project hosted a successful pre-conference workshop “Making Waves – Immersive stakeholder engagement for sustainable societies: the water-smart cities example” by CIRSEAU Cluster at the Ecsite2024 conference, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The workshop used the PlayDecide game to engage participants and foster discussions in the fields of sustainability, circular economy, and societal and science engagement, focusing on water as a valuable resource.
The WATER-MINING project is actively engaged in developing and commercializing Kaumera®, an extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) derived from surplus aerobic granular sludge produced by Nereda® technology. Extracted during wastewater treatment, Kaumera® boasts a range of versatile applications. It serves as a binder in composite materials, imparts flame-retardant properties, and can be used as a biostimulant and coating that reduces irrigation requirements. LEARN MORE.
Spotlight at the Water Market Europe 2024 event
The Water Market Europe event convened on 26-27 March in the city of Brussels for discussions on extracting water and resources from desalination brines, and urban and industrial wastewater streams. Dimitris Xevgenos from TU Delft presented an in-depth overview of the project, highlighting the progress and potential of the SEA-MINING and NEREDA Case Studies 2 and 3, focusing on their social and market integration in Cyprus.
